MOM'S KITCHEN

SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY

Southern hospitality has been a part of our family's heritage and tradition for centuries, and the gracious but simple meals are a part of this lifestyle.  I am sure my cooking methods are different, from my mom's or even my sisters', however, I still adapt the recipes.  I just want to remain loyal  to the foods of my past. Memories of my mom and dad are kept alive through recipes I can  pass on from generation to generation. I couldn't wait until Saturday night and mom would do our hair for Church and cook Sunday dinner at the same time. ( No, no there was never any hair in the kitchen.)  Church was important to the family; I figured that since mom and dad would prepare for it one whole day.

My children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews have their favorite recipes or foods that were prepared by mom and I want to make sure these recipes remain woven into the fabric of their lives.

MOM'S LEGACY

Mom's legacy was her fellowship with family and friends over a well prepared meal.  We came to the table knowing the love and attention she had given each dish.  It wasn't about the occasion but about sharing.

Most of the foods are comfort  foods which will be a part of southern life and my family's life forever.

The name, Mom's Kitchen, has some significance.  The kitchen was where the meaning of life was discussed.  The warmth that exuded there and the warmth didn't come from the oven or from things cooking on the stove top.  It was from the love that mom and dad had for family and friends that gathered there.

These were dad's favorite things to cook.  It looks like a small contribution but after church we would get our "grub on".

Mom's salads could be a meal in itself  or eaten with a main course.  If you like to cook for your family try some of these recipes.  Remember good food and good company is good for the soul.

CANT EVER SAY THAT IT WAS SOUL FOOD IT WAS JUST FOOD. IT FILLED THE VOID WE HAD IN THE STOMACH AND WE WERE BLESSED TO HAVE IT.
