Nolan and Stella Jones arrived in Tucumcari in 1933 at the urging of Nolan's sister. Mr. Nolan and his wife built a barbecue business and several apartment buildings. Mr. Jones served on the police force for two sheriffs. In 1954, Mr. Jones and his brother-in-law, Robert Richards, opened the Amigo Hotel and Café. The motel was located on Highway 66 and many Black celebrities spent the night there. Mr. Jones also served as a policeman for two sheriffs and he was the Grand Master for the Masonic Lodge until his death. | |
