1900 - HISTORY

By the 1900's, African Americans were moving into other areas of the State and the Albuquerque population had grown to more than three hundred African Americans.

One of the first families to move to Las Cruces, in the Mesilla Valley, were from Chicago, Mr. E.D. Williams and his wife. They invested in a farm and other city property. He was a barber by trade and was considered a wealthy man.
